Decorating Your Home Office on a Budget

Everyone needs to update their home every now and then. Today that includes a home office for many homes across the country. A home office can be one of the most difficult rooms in your home to get just right. Combining functionality and style can prove to be a challenge. It’s also very possible that your home office isn’t in a room all to its own, making it that much more challenging! Of course, you could hire a professional, but if you’d rather do it yourself or don’t have the budget for that, then here are some ideas for you.

First of all, you’ll need to decide on the main color scheme you’d like to use. Depending on your personality, you should choose a color that comes to life or one that is soothing and calming. The livelier colors will give you a sense of energy if that’s what you need, while the more subtle colors will help you relax. Choose the one that’s right for you based on what you normally need to get your work done… do you need a pick-me-up or do you need to be able calm down, focus, and relax?

Once you have paint in place, you can use artwork to jazz up the walls. This could be as easy as framing that last masterpiece your child created! That’s a perfect touch if you have kids, because it gives you a sense of home and family while in your office. It also is unique; no one else has one.

Take a little time to scour through out the rest of your home for odds-n-ends or furniture that isn’t really used. This is a great way to save money, by simply re-using things that you already own. Is there a chair in the family room that nobody ever uses? Why not throw it in the corner of your office or by a window to provide a comfy place for a visitor, client, or business partner? You can also find amazing deals at garage sales and thrift stores.

Finish off with the little things…lighting that fits your space, style, and budget. If you have a large window, you likely won’t need extensive lighting; a few lamps could be just right. Pick up a few books, plants, bookends, etc… to place around the room. Decorating your perfect home office does not have to be budget-breaking, and is a wonderful way to give new inspiration to your work.
